The Amazing Rhythm Mule (A.K.A - The Old Dogs)

          Picture
The Amazing Rhythm Mule originated as the Old Dogs in 2004.  I went to buy a new guitar one day and while I trying out a bunch of them out and singing along to see how they felt there was a guy on the other side of the acoustic room playing along and putting in all of these amazing instrumental breaks.  I said "why don't pull up a chair over here" and we were jammin before we even knew each others name.  That guy was Tim Flynn, a truley amazing instrumentalist and now great buddy and bandmate for the last five years.  Somewhere along the line Tim and I picked up Steve Vendettuoli as a bass player (I think I met Steve at the Joyce when I was running the open mike and asked him to join in for a show) and the solid foundation of the band was formed.  We have worked with drummers and added extra strings occasionally in the past but the core of the band is Tim, Steve, and I.  We play classic rock tunes from Dylan, Neil Young, Rolling Stones, Van Morrison and the Police along with whole bunch of Tim's and my originals. This band has a driving acoustic edge.  Especially when one of our favorite, most recent, "sometimes Old Dog" John Juxo joins us and brings us to a whole different place with keyboard, and squeezebox.  I think sometimes we end up just having too much fun!

Tim and I also worked the Old Dogs as a duo even though it usually turns into a five piece by the end the night. Gotta love playing music!!  The Old Dogs have performed together well over 100 nights in Rhode Island since we began.

ANNOUNCEMENT: After about a years worth of trying to decide on a new band name for The Old Dogs (because there are alot of them in the internet community),  we are in the process of changing our name to "The Amazing Rhythm Mule".  We must have searched over a hundred alternatives and they were all taken so we went back to one of the first names out of the gate "Rhythm Mule" because is pretty much my M.O..  When Timmy and I play as a duo we will likely just be "Rhythm Mule" (although he is amazing on the guitar) and when we work as a trio, quartet, or quintet and blend in "The Amazing Tabasco Brothers" we'll be "The Amazing Rhythm Mule".   My buddy DG and I laughed so hard at this spin on the name when we first combined it that I have give it a go.
